The new canvas?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

It wasn’t long ago that I first saw wall decals appear and thought they were the most innovative and creative thing to hit walls since, well, paint! But these babies aren’t just for walls. Oh, no. Put them on your windows, your doors, down the side of cabinets and on your kitchen tiles. Hell, even offices are getting in on the act with huge decals on their walls and even their laptops!

So what’s so good about them? They’re a modern way to jazz up a boring space in the blink of an eye. Within minutes, you could have a twist and tangle of vines above your lounge or even a shrub in the corner room that you will never have to water. And the best bit? If you don’t like them after a month or so, you can simply peel them off without damaging the wall. That’s a win!

Below I’ve shared some of my favourites so far.

‘Blossom’, ‘Birds on Clothes Line’ & ‘Resting Birds’ decals from Stickee. Sold for around $30/each.

Blik
‘Poker Hand Values’ from Blik.

Blik
‘Classic Chair Backs’ from Blik. Very chic. These would go nicely with…

Blik
… the ‘Classical Must Haves’ from Blik. Wouldn’t be too shabby with…

Blik
… this gorgeous ‘Chandeleir’ decal either! From Blik.

Blik
‘Super Mario Brothers’ and ‘Invader’ and From Blik.

Blik
‘Me, Myshelf & I’ goes for $40USD.

Why not decorate your laptop or notebook with a mini birdie decal from Decorette?

Or bring the outside in with a beautiful lamp post.

Cool Art Vinyl also have some fantastic decals that are fairly reasonably priced.

There are some fabulous decals out there for children. Everything from teddies and trains to racing tracks that go up the wall and onto the ceiling. I can’t think of a more cost effective and exciting way to jazz up a room for the kiddies. Check out: thekidsstore.com.au, forwallsdecals.com (check out the owls!).

My Munchin Home also gets an honourable mention!

To those of you who know me well, it’s no secret I’m obsessed with all the cute little birdies that seem to be popping up in everyone’s designs lately. They’re everywhere - on t-shirts, on websites, in logos and they’re even taking the form of stuffed toys. I thought I’d share some of my favourites so far.
